In 2023, the opportunity to curate a Greek Isles cruise for a group of first responders aboard the Virgin Voyage’s Resilient Lady was not just an assignment; it was a mission. The aim was to create a perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and camaraderie for those who spend their lives dedicated to helping others. This journey began and ended in the historic city of Athens, where we arranged stays at the Niche Hotel and the Intercontinental Athenaeum, both of which provided a warm, welcoming atmosphere with amazing proximity to the city’s ancient wonders.

Before setting sail on the Resilient Lady, we embarked on a tour of Athens. The energy of the city—with its blend of ancient history and modern vibrancy—was the perfect kickoff. We explored the Acropolis, marveled at the Parthenon, and wandered through the winding streets of the Plaka district. Then the time came to embark on our Greek Isles Adventure! The Resilient Lady offered an array of dining experiences, from the lively atmosphere at Razzle Dazzle (and their unbelievably good bacon) to the refined elegance of The Wake steak house. Scarlet Night, an evening where the ship is immersed in a sea of red and everyone dresses to impress, was a fun and glamorous highlight.

Our itinerary was packed with private excursions that allowed the first responders to dive deep into the heart of Greek history and culture, while enjoying the camaraderie of our group on private tours. In Santorini, we experienced the iconic blue-domed churches of Oia and savored the breathtaking views of the caldera. The Acropolis of Lindos on Rhodes offered a journey back in time, with its ancient ruins and stunning vistas. Our visit to Ancient Ephesus and the House of the Virgin Mary in Turkey was a poignant reminder of the region’s rich religious history. The serene beauty of Delos, accessed by a private ferry ride, provided a tranquil escape, while the oracle of Delphi connected us with the mystic past of the Greeks. Perhaps one of the most engaging experiences was the cooking class in Mykonos, where a local grandma invited us into her home introducing us to the flavors of Greek cuisine. She was so funny – turning simple ingredients into stories and flavors into memories.

This cruise was more than just a vacation for our group of first responders; it was a voyage of discovery, relaxation, and togetherness. The Resilient Lady served as our floating sanctuary, where laughter filled the air, stories were shared, and bonds were forged. As we disembarked back in Athens, it was clear that while our journey had ended, the memories and friendships we had made would sail with us forever. This experience wasn’t just about seeing new places; it was about creating a space where heroes could unwind, explore, and be celebrated. And as their travel advisor, guiding them through this adventure was an honor that I will always cherish.
